# Social Verification

Connect your X (Twitter) and Discord accounts to The Walking Man and earn bonus steps through social engagement.

## Why Connect Your Socials?

When you verify your social accounts, you unlock:

* **Social tasks**: Share your walking progress, post milestones, and grow your following
* **Bonus steps**: Earn extra steps by completing social challenges
* **Community integration**: Show your tier and walking status on your profile
* **Exclusive opportunities**: Get early access to contests and special events

## Connecting X (Twitter)

1. **Go to** [**/connect**](https://github.com/Jamezyair1/the-walking-man-s-journey/blob/main/connect/README.md)
2. **Click "Connect"** next to X / Twitter
3. **Authorize The Walking Man** to access your X account (read-only; we never post without permission)
4. **Done**. Your X account is now linked — you'll receive a one-time bonus on first connect

### What we access on X:

* Your username and profile info

We will **never** post on your behalf, delete tweets, or access private messages.

## Connecting Discord

1. **Go to** [**/connect**](https://github.com/Jamezyair1/the-walking-man-s-journey/blob/main/connect/README.md)
2. **Click "Connect"** next to Discord
3. **Authorize The Walking Man** to see your Discord profile and guild membership
4. **Join** [**The Walking Man Discord**](https://discord.gg/EKyuuhvZ98) if you haven't already, then reconnect
5. **Done**. Your Discord account is now linked — in-server members receive a one-time bonus

## Social Tasks

Once verified, you can earn steps by completing social tasks:

### Daily Social Task

* **"Walk & Post"**: Post a screenshot or update about your walk on X with `#TheWalkingMan`
* **Reward**: 50 bonus steps
* **Limit**: Once per day

### Weekly Challenges

* **"Grow Your Following"**: Reach a new milestone (100, 500, 1K followers)
* **Reward**: 500 bonus steps per milestone
* **Limit**: Each milestone once
* **"Share Your Tier"**: Post about reaching a new tier (FCFS, GTD, 2× GTD)
* **Reward**: 250 bonus steps
* **Limit**: Once per tier

### Community Engagement

* **"Join the Discord"**: Join The Walking Man Discord server
* **Reward**: 100 bonus steps (one-time)
* **Limit**: Once
* **"Active in Discord"**: Post 5+ messages in community channels
* **Reward**: 100 bonus steps
* **Limit**: Once per week

## Disconnecting Your Socials

You can disconnect X or Discord at any time from your account settings:

1. **Go to Settings** in your dashboard
2. **Find "Connected Accounts"**
3. **Click "Disconnect"** next to the platform
4. Your account is immediately unlinked

Disconnecting doesn't affect your already-earned steps, but you won't be able to complete social tasks until you reconnect.

## Privacy & Security

* We **never** share your social data with third parties
* Your social handles are **private** and only visible to you
* We use **OAuth** which means you never share passwords with us
* You can **disconnect anytime** and your data is deleted from our system

## Troubleshooting

### "Verification failed"

Make sure your X/Discord account is public and active. Try disconnecting and reconnecting.

### "Task says completed but I didn't earn steps"

Social tasks are verified manually within 24 hours. Check back later, or contact our Discord community for help.

### "I connected but don't see tasks"

Refresh the page. If tasks still don't appear, try disconnecting and reconnecting your account.
