# Referrals & tasks

## Referrals

Every walker has a referral code visible on the dashboard, plus a shareable referral link that you can copy with one click.

When a new walker signs up via your link:

* They're permanently attributed to you (`referred_by`).
* Both of you receive bonus steps once they cross qualifying thresholds.
* Your `total_referrals` counter ticks up.

There is no cap on how many walkers you can refer. There is a cap on what counts: a referee who never walks past the first checkpoint does not earn bonuses.

## Social tasks

The Tasks page hosts time-limited social tasks — follow on X, join Discord, repost an announcement — each worth a fixed step bonus. Tasks are claimable once per walker.

X and Discord must be **connected** before you can claim tasks that require them. Connection happens inline on the Tasks page; we never ask for your password, only the OAuth handshake.

## Anti-abuse

* Self-referrals are blocked.
* Multi-account farming via the same email/wallet is detected and bans both ends of the referral chain.
* Banned walkers' referral credit is rolled back from their referrers.
